A young soldier is torn between military loyalty and his own moral code in this fictional, interactive narrative based on powerful real life testimonials.
Assigned to his first UN mission in a wartorn, West African country, young soldier David, realises that his roommate Jean-Baptiste ‘JB’ is not what he appears to be. As JB’s self-destructive behaviour threatens a local girl and the safety of the whole contingent, David must choose between loyalty to his comrade and what he knows is right.
The piece is live action branching narrative programmed into Unity for interactivity so viewers can make choices. The film was designed to train UN peacekeepers and help reduce the incidence of abuse of local populations by peacekeeping forces. The entire cast was bilingual English/French and the film was shot in both languages to maximise impact.
After extensive consultation with experts working in this area, I designed the branching narrative, and wrote and directed the film. Gaelle Mourre was responsible for the French script translation and assisting in directing the French language performances.
